Our Philosophy
-
Temperament
Our number one priority is for our dogs to have a great temperament. While our program is primarily targeted to producing world-class Schnauzers for the show ring, the reality is most Swashbuckle Schnauzers become treasured family members.
Dogs with good temperament are more likely to be a good companion and family member. They are less likely to exhibit aggressive or fearful behavior. Dogs with a good temperament are well-adjusted and have a better quality of life.
-
Conformation
Conformation refers to the overall shape and ‘structure’ of a dog - how it is built and how closely the dog/bitch matches the ‘Breed Standard.’
Of course, to produce world-class show dogs requires careful attention to the conformation of the parents of each planned mating. We consult widely with Australian and global expertise in the Standard Schnauzer to ensure every litter produces puppies with outstanding conformation.
-
Health
Swashbuckle Schnauzers ensure the health of their puppies by performing genetic testing of the parents. Genetic testing can identify any potential genetic disorders that a puppy may be predisposed to, allowing us to make informed decisions about planned matings.
Regular vet check-ups can detect any health issues that may arise during the puppy's development. We socialize and expose our puppies to different environments and people, to ensure that they are well-adjusted and healthy.
-
Partnerships
Breeding World-Class dogs of any type is a team effort, particularly ‘specialty breeds’ like Standard Schnauzers which are relatively rare in Australia. We are fortunate to have partnered with the finest people and breeders, in Australia and World-wide, committed to improving the Schnauzer.
We would like to thank especially Shelley Hancox of Doenitz, Mariette Lees and Mark Lyons from Grossbotwar, Sientje Witton of Wittmor, Stefania Bozzoli, owner of Masaal Black Zambesi River, Sabina Favaro of Masaal, Agnnieszka Urbanska of Elitesse, Scoci Rider, Otis Boanergos kennel in Ukraine (we send lots of love and care), Albrecht kennel, and many more we will add once we re-check spellings.
-
Ongoing Support
Swashbuckle Schnauzers provide ongoing support and advice to all Swashbuckle families - as much or as little as you want.
Please call, email or get in touch through social media if your Swashbuckle family has any questions or concerns.
In the event you need to re-home your Swashbuckle, please call us at your earliest convenience and we will provide advice and support during the rehoming process.
We always like to hear from our Swashbuckle families about how Swashbuckle Schnauzers are living their lives, both good and bad, so we can continue to learn and improve the Standard Schnauzer breed.
-
Biosecurity
The health and well-being of all our animals is obviously important to us, as it is to all who are blessed with companion animals. This is especially so at ‘puppy time’, where we implement appropriate biosecurity controls to protect young, vulnerable puppies in the period before vaccinations become fully effective.
We welcome visits to view puppies from about 4 weeks of age - mostly because before eyes open and the become mobile, there is nothing much to see! As this is prior to receiving their first vaccinations, we respectfully request that visiting families follow these biosecurity controls:
Please do not bring other pets to scheduled viewings. While we are sure they are vaccinated, other dogs they have socialised with recently may not have been vaccinated.
Please refrain from visiting dog parks in the 24hrs prior to your visit, and especially the day of the visit.
We will ask that you step into disinfectant foot mats, so wear appropriate footwear.
We will sanitise with handwash - just like Covid all over again!
